Generally, a 3-4-year-old bamboo is chopped & get dried in the sun after removing excess oil by boiling it in caustic soda water for 15 minutes. Then it is cut into halves and further splitting is done as per the need for the design of the product. Usually, the artisans use their hands for weaving & knitting but some of the tools like ‘dao’ (bill-hook), a knife and a ‘jak’ (‘v’ shaped wooden frame) are essentially used. Also, other tools are used depending on the product design. After it is dyed, it is finished with natural lacquer & sometimes the products are treated against parasites.
